Friday, August 8, 2025 at North Beach Restaurant: Rana Sakar, Canadian Consul General

This Friday, August 8 Sac Sem’s guest is Canadian Consul General Rana Sakar. He was appointed as Consul General of Canada in San Francisco / Silicon Valley in 2017, with accreditation for Northern California and Hawaii. He is also a member of Canada’s NAFTA Advisory Council. CG Sakar will be introduced by Seminarian Allan Unger.

The consul general will speak to the Canada-U.S. relationship writ large – where it is, and where it is going – amid ongoing efforts to advance a new trade and security relationship. The discussion will touch on the stakes for Canada-U.S. trade and security collaboration amidst a shifting global order marked by complex geopolitical and geoeconomic challenges – including fierce competition in frontier technologies – with far-reaching implications for economic and national security.

Mr. Sarkar previously served as National Director for High Growth Markets at KPMG Canada, and co-chairman of the advisory board at the Munk School of Global Affairs at the University of Toronto. From 2009 - 2013, he was President and Chief Executive Officer of the Canada-India Business Council. He attended the London School of Economics, Queen’s University at Kingston, Ontario, and the INSEAD Executive Program in France.
